Denisovan

An archaic human population identified from fossils and DNA recovered in Denisova Cave in Siberia, forming a sister lineage to Neanderthals. Traces of it remain in the genomes of some present-day populations.
400,000-year-old Homo erectus teeth from China carry an enamel protein mutation once thought exclusive to Denisovans. A 2026 study using new fossil-protein analysis found the same mutation in some modern Southeast Asian and Oceanian people, linking all three groups genetically.
