Tenochtitlan
Tenochtitlan was the capital of the Aztec Empire, founded by the Mexica on an island in Lake Texcoco. After its conquest in 1521, Mexico City developed around its site.
Oxford is older than the Aztec Empire. The earliest record of teaching at Oxford dates to 1096; the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan was founded in 1325. We call the Aztecs an 'ancient' civilization, yet it began only when Oxford was already over two centuries old.
