Ludwig van Beethoven

German composer and pianist (1770–1827), regarded as the figure who brought the Classical style to its height and opened the way to Romanticism. He lost most of his hearing in middle age yet still produced late masterworks such as the Ninth Symphony.

Piano keys once had the opposite color layout. In the era of Mozart and Beethoven, wide keys were black and narrow keys white. This was likely because ivory for white keys cost more than ebony for black keys.
