Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola is a carbonated soft-drink brand produced by The Coca-Cola Company. It was first sold in Atlanta, USA, in 1886.

In 1915, Coca-Cola challenged glassmakers to design "a bottle a person will recognize even in the dark by feel alone." The resulting ribbed contour shape worked so well that by 1949, over 99% of Americans could identify a Coca-Cola bottle blindfolded.

In 1915 Coca-Cola asked glassmakers for a bottle recognizable by touch in the dark or by its shards. Designer Earl Dean found no images of coca leaves or kola nuts, so he sketched a similarly named cocoa pod instead—the mix-up shaped the bottle.
